Farnaz was born in Boroujerd, south-west of Iran. She started climbing back in 2003 and has been an active member of national sport climbing team since 2004.
Born to a nature and sports loving family, she was introduced to rock climbing at an early age. She is a self-taught athlete who owes her success to constant support and encouragement by her family. Farnaz is Iran's record holder in women's speed climbing discipline (from 2007) to the date. Further, she is a pioneer in women's world cup competition climbing from her country, and she is among the first female athletes who have been officially qualified for (competition) route-setting. Her best worldcup result/rank is 6th, and she has been able to secure a position among top 30 athletes in the world several times. Aside from her main interest which is speed climbing, she engages in bouldering and outdoor lead climbing projects. She also takes part in coaching and route-setting activities. Farnaz has been giving inspirational and motivational talks e.g. at TEDx Sari and pitch bootcamp at Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran, Iran. Her life has been featured in various documentaries and interviews with national and international journals and press. When she is not climbing, she enjoys traveling, painting, reading books and playing guitar among others.
